Tight Club Check In: Karen O'Connor

Take a peek inside the Tight Club community, each week we’re checking in with one of our crew to learn what they get up to when they’re not slamming balls or crushing burpee challenges. These are the people that motivate you in class when sh!t gets real. From OG’s to newbies, here’s their inside scoop.

Meet Karen.


What is Tight in your life?
My friends…they’re REALLY fcking cool people, like actually the best. My dog Willa, my fam, my travel schedule, my weekend plans outside and that the bf always has a fresh IPA in the fridge for me when I get home from being away #WifeLife.
Signature Move?

Wine glass to mouth. Repeat.
Something people might not know about you?

I grew up in a teeny town at the North end of Vancouver Island called Port McNeill. We got to do all sorts of rad things as kids like sitting in the cab of the big machines sorting logs or riding the tugs when my Dad took us to work with him. It was heaven.


What’s your favourite workout song?

Childish Gambino-Heartbeat or Rage Against the Machine- Killing in the name.
What’s your spirit animal and why?

A Lion definitely. They are fierce when they need to be, are happiest when they’re surrounded by their people and love a good catnap in the sun. Plus I’m a Leo so I think its just in the stars ;)
Who would be your celebrity best friend?

Jimmy Fallon or Anthony Bourdain. Just maybe not at the same time. It would be hard to eat all the amazing food when you’re constantly laughing your ass off.


Favourite way to procrastinate?

Traveling the world on Google Earth.
What was the last thing you read?

Quartz Brief (Daily) and Legacy by James Kerr.
If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?

Calgary, London or Melbourne. My 3 closest friends moved away and I would take any excuse to see them more.


What does the tight life mean to you?

Balance, and not in the 50/50 sense. You wake up, you choose to do things that light you up and say no to the ones that don’t. Unapologetically. Find things that challenge you, make you laugh and make you grow. Be generous, be kind and take the high road always. Leave your ego at home, your pride in check. Do the work that needs to be done and do it well.
What is your fitness goal?

To feel powerful in my workouts again. 33 years of ignoring the ‘yin’ to my ‘yang’ has caught up with me and I’ve been sidelined with injuries. I’m looking forward to earning it back and feeling strong again.


Do you have any pre or post workout rituals?

Shower (obv) and usually a smoothie from Body Energy Club or a coffee from Matchstick.
How do you treat yourself?

I create ‘alone time’ for myself weekly. It looks different all the time but its a phone-free, guilt-free, do what I want for an hour (ish) long extravaganza.
The best part about fall is?

It's a tie between Football and maximizing my pumpkin pie/whip cream intake. Bonus points if its at the same time.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
