Take a peek inside the Tight Club community, each week we’re checking in with one of our crew to learn what they get up to when they’re not slamming balls or crushing burpee challenges. These are the people that motivate you in class when sh!t gets real. From OG’s to newbies, here’s their inside scoop.
What is Tight in your life?
Vancouver is Tight! I moved here a year and a half ago from England in search of something great and I have not been disappointed. It has been the best adventure I’ve embarked on to date and has totally changed my way of life too. I’ve changed from a primarily sedentary being, to someone who's full of activity. Mountains.
I’m currently collecting hobbies too! Favourites include singing in a ‘rock n roll’ choir (The Kingsgate Chorus), Tight Club (obvs), and creating hand made accessories from Leather (wallets, key chains, and the such; coming to store near you!). Oh and Basketball! We have pick up games every Thursday starting in the spring if anyone wants to play.
Ball Slams. I enjoy the full body movement and I imagine smashing my adversaries/worries into the ground with every slam. Who ever invented squeezey stress balls was way off the mark; every office needs a slam ball corner.
Something people might not know about you?
Back in the UK I was a programmer and live music promoter for a group of venues in Manchester. I had the opportunity to put on one of Alt-J’s first ever shows to a room of probably 30 people (before they were uber famous and went by the name ‘Films’). Unfortunately they were £20 over my budget and I decided I couldn’t afford it. If only I could turn back time!
It was a splendid experience though and not only did I get to work with some of my favourite musicians, it also opened my eyes to the music industry and made me realize what kind of person I am. Ultimately I’ve got some stories to ‘tell the grand kids’ and some others that are better left unsaid!
What’s your favourite workout song?
Pusha T - Numbers on the Boards. Minimal beats and aggressive lyrics are perfect for focus, especially after a tough day. Everyone needs music to make them feel like a badass.
What’s your spirit animal and why?
Bears - They’re intelligent, majestic, protective, curious, hairy, ferocious, and enjoy a good hibernate. I like to think we have some correlation; I'd like to give one a chin scratch.
Who would be your celebrity best friend?
Celeb best friend is a difficult one, I really would’ve liked to hang out with George Harrison. He seemed to have a wonderful understanding of the world and did things purely for enjoyment, irregardless of being one of the most famous people ever! I would definitely have gotten drunk with him and attempted a duet. He would’ve been up for that for sure. (If it has to be living though, Jennifer Lawrence, best friends kiss on the lips right?)
Favourite way to procrastinate?
Daydreaming. Favourite scenario’s include:
- Winning the lottery and who/what I’d spend it on
- Being famous as a musician, but only mildly. Just so i get free stuff really, the attention might be a bit much
- Executing 'chick flick worthy' romantic gestures
What was the last thing you read?
The opening chapter of 'Just Kid’s’ by Patti Smith
If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?
Surfing* in South America. (*attempted surfing)
What does The Tight Life mean to you?
It represents a new chapter in my life. I’ve lived a somewhat debauched, alcohol fueled lifestyle thus far (of course I blame that on being English). Moving to Vancouver made me realize that there is way more pleasure to be found from a lifestyle full of variation and activity.
I’m relatively new to Tight Club (I dipped my toe in a bit last year) but over the past few months I’ve embraced the ethos. It’s made me realize that exercise doesn’t have to be a chore. Its sociable, mind enriching, physically challenging, and inclusive. It’s a community and a pretty tight one at that.
What is your fitness goal?
To take part in my first 10k race, beat my personal best on the Grouse grind, and be beach bod ready in time for the endless summer.
What is your new year's resolution?
This year I didn’t make a resolution, I made a list of achievements.
Here’s a snippet:
- Get my Drivers License in time for driving down the west coast with my old man, this spring (Any calm drivers out there wana teach me?)
- Do a 10K race
- Embark on a new career
- Launch my leather brand
- Attempt the Gran Fondo
Do you have any pre or post workout rituals?
Pre - a smoothie. Post - a shower (and I’ve now been told I have to stretch every evening, I guess my toes aren’t going to touch themselves).

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
