Take a peek inside the Tight Club community, each week we’re checking in with one of our crew to learn what they get up to when they’re not slamming balls or crushing burpee challenges. These are the people that motivate you in class when sh!t gets real. From OG’s to newbies, here’s their inside scoop.
What is Tight in your life?
An interesting job (environmental consultant for a small firm), a home I own (well the bank owns it at the moment), a great group of friends and a great partner. All this and finally finding a community of people at Tight Club that I can rely on each week to kick my butt.
There is one routine we do at Tight Club called Sally Up Sally Down which is a squat with a medicine ball set to Moby’s “Bring Sally Up.” Every time I complete the routine I notice just how much I have improved from the first time I did it. It’s encouraging to see continual improvement.
Something people might not know about you?
I am an identical twin. My parents had a thing about making sure that we were individuals. They made sure to put us into separate activities as we were growing up. Maybe it worked a little too well…we couldn’t be more different! Although one thing we do have in common is working out within a community. He got entranced by Cross Fit and my heart belongs to Tight Club.
What’s your favourite workout song?
I have a great playlist on Spotify which helps keep my body moving. The nice thing about Tight Club is having a chance to expand that list with songs I would have never otherwise heard. The last one that captured my imagination New Dorp, New York by SBTRKT. I have also been loving Usher’s Crash.
What’s your spirit animal and why?
Octopus comes up right away. Intelligent, resourceful, curious and more legs means more high fives for all my people!
Who would be your celebrity best friend?
Two things I value in any friend is humour and kindness. One person I have a feeling fits that bill is Jennifer Lawrence. She cracks me up, and doesn’t take herself so seriously. Wine night with her would be AWESOME!
Favourite way to procrastinate?
I have found myself trapped in a spiral of looking at images on Imgur when I should be writing a report at work, or even worse when I should be going to bed.
What was the last thing you read?
I am a big urban fantasy fan (e.g. Jim Butcher series), but interestingly enough the last thing I read was Patti Smith’s Just Kids. It details the lifelong love affair between her and the artist Robert Mapplethorpe in 1960’s New York. Being more of a scientist than an artist it was so fascinating to glimpse into a world I knew so little about, while also relating so much to the theme of love and growth. Reading that book and then going to New York show just how much that city has changed.
If you could go anywhere tomorrow, where would you go?
As much as I love exploring cities and new cultures, right now I would love to be in a waterfront cabin surrounded by trees on one of the Gulf Islands. After a summer of non-stop work I need to go somewhere that I can disconnect, recharge and slow the heck down.
What does the tight life mean to you?
Work hard, love deeply, and continue to grow. All that with a sprinkling of balance would be a tight life.
What is your fitness goal?
Right now my biggest goal is consistency. In the past I have worked out for a while, and then went back to my sedentary lifestyle. This time I want to make fitness a lifestyle.
Do you have any pre or post workout rituals?
I love listening to audio books, but finding time to actually do it is difficult. During the walk to and from my place I make sure to take the 25 minutes to immerse myself into another world. Oh also a banana…a perfect pre workout snack.
How do you treat yourself?
My favorite treat is having my boyfriend come over and watching a show together. It’s a great chance to spend quality time together while turning our brains off for a bit. Now add a glass of wine or beer to the mix and I would call that pretty perfect.
This summer my big plans are...
To spend a lot of time at Tight Club, which will be a break from work. My family owns a blueberry farm in Pitt Meadows and I work there on the weekends. Once that is over I am hoping to get away for a little trip to Portland with the BF and drink so much beer.
What's your favorite holiday?
Gay Pride aka. Gay Christmas. Every year I help the family out for the summer at the farm, but on the long weekend of Gay Pride I take the weekend off and spend some quality time with friends. Each year I look forward to the dancing, the great company and the joy that comes with the day.

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
